Every kilometer is an obstacle on the way to a better life. Whether it is everyday errands or access to education, health centers and job opportunities: In remote regions of Tanzania, long distances often create insurmountable hurdles<\/strong>. For families from rural areas and economically difficult circumstances, mobility<\/strong> can make a decisive difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u00abBikes for Changemakers\u00bb project is a collaboration between Velafrica, ABC Impact and Mainsprings. The project provides so-called \u00abchangemaker families\u00bb in the Lake Victoria region with two bikes<\/strong> each, including access to service and maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abChangemaker families\u00bb are families with young children affected by generational poverty<\/strong>: Poverty is passed on from generation to generation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In order to break free from the poverty loop, family members need access to education<\/strong> and training opportunities<\/strong>, healthcare<\/strong> and access to the job market<\/strong> and economic activities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bicycles increase the families’ mobility and enable them to cover the distance between their homes and the Mainsprings-run campuses in Kitongo and Kahunda more quickly. Each campus includes a primary and secondary school, a regenerative agriculture farm, a health center, playgrounds and facilities for training and visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bicycles for healthcare staff<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the \u00abchangemaker families\u00bb, the project also provided the healthcare staff at the Kitnong Health Center with six bicycles. The bikes enable them to make home visits to sick people, for example. \u00abGetting to the hospital used to be a struggle. I had to walk. Now I can reach patients quickly by bike,\u00bb says one employee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
